King Felipe VI visiting the construction site of the new battery plant of SEAT S.A.
Work continues on the construction of the new SEAT S.A. plant: the facility will be dedicated to the assembly of battery cells produced in the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto and destined for the Volkswagen Group's urban electric models that will roll off the lines in Martorell from the end of 2025.
New factory, future models and e-mobility plan
SEAT's top management accompanied His Majesty King Felipe VI, the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pere Aragonès, and the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, among others, on a visit to the site, sharing construction progress and visions for the future. The day began at the company's Style (Design) Centre, where the authorities were able to see the future models of the family of urban electric vehicles that will be produced in Martorell and Navarra starting next year; the delegation then moved on to the construction site where the facility for assembling the battery systems is being built; the event concluded with a presentation on the progress of the electrification plan of the Volkswagen Group and SEAT S.A. in Spain.

A 300 million euro investment, more than 500 jobs
The new battery system assembly plant in Martorell is a key element in SEAT S.A.'s electrification strategy. The plant will cover an area of 64,000 square metres and, when it becomes operational in 2025, will have an impact on more than 500 jobs.
SEAT S.A. is investing EUR 300 million in the plant, where the battery cells produced in the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto will be assembled. The Martorell plant - which will be equipped with 11,000 solar panels, covering 70 per cent of the energy required for the entire process - will have an initial production capacity of 1,400 battery systems per day, which will be transferred directly to the assembly lines of the new electric cars via a 600-metre long conveyor system.

Spain, European hub for electric mobility
This new plant is part of the Volkswagen Group's ambitious transformation plan in Spain. Together with the partners of the Future: Fast Forward project, the aim is to make the country a reference hub for electric mobility in Europe.
‘Three years ago we made a big promise: to electrify SEAT S.A. and put Spain on the road to electric mobility. During this period we have worked hard to turn this goal into reality and the new battery assembly plant is the best proof of this. We are pushing ahead with investments, the development of new electric cars and work in the plants. Our commitment to electrification and decarbonisation is clear and we now need the same commitment from the Spanish government,' explained Wayne Griffiths, President of SEAT S.A.
