A partnership for autonomous driving
Volkswagen ADMT, LLC, a Volkswagen Group of America subsidiary dedicated to self-driving mobility, and Uber Technologies, Inc. announced a strategic partnership to introduce a fleet of thousands of ID. Buzz AD, 100% electric and self-driving vehicles, in several US cities over the next decade, starting with Los Angeles.
Testing is expected to begin by the end of the year, with human operators on board to help perfect the technology and ensure safety while on the move. Any subsequent steps will only take place once the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained. The commercial launch of the service is planned for 2026, in Los Angeles.
MOIA, the Volkswagen Group's on-demand mobility brand, will provide its integrated solution for autonomous driving, which includes ID. Buzz AD - an autonomous variant of the Volkswagen van - and a software system for joining the Uber platform.
