VGI ECO DAY: Volkswagen Group Italia at the forefront of environmental protection
An afternoon was dedicated to collecting plastic in a 'critical' area on the banks of the Adige river, identified with the association Plastic Free Odv Onlus, which coordinated the project. The VGI ECO DAY took place on May 13th: an initiative involving Volkswagen Group Italia employees on a voluntary basis, aimed at raising awareness of plastic dispersion and actively promoting environmental protection. Colleagues from MAN Truck & Bus Italia, a Volkswagen Group company based in Verona, contributed as well.
Marcus Osegowitsch, CEO of Volkswagen Group Italia, took part in the initiative: 'It was a truly significant day; a good opportunity to prove our responsibility towards the environment and to strengthen the team through active engagement, in an initiative that brings concrete benefits to the territory - in line with the principles of sustainability defined by our environmental policy”.
The Volkswagen Group Italia employees who joined the project, together with colleagues from MAN Truck & Bus Italia, cleaned up various green areas in the Parco dell’Adige Sud (Adige South Park), along the banks of the river that runs through Verona: 670 kg of plastic and rubbish were collected over a total area of about 58,000 m2. A concrete action that confirms Volkswagen Group Italia's all-round commitment to environmental protection, one of the several activities promoted in this sphere.
The event was coordinated by Plastic Free Odv Onlus, a voluntary association established with the aim of making as many people as possible aware of the dangers of plastic pollution. Plastic Free, a leading association in this field, supported Volkswagen Group Italia in the identification of a suitable area for the activity and provided the participants with significant information and data, raising their awareness on the subject.
Protecting the environment is a priority for the Volkswagen Group, which, in line with its environmental policy, promotes a holistic approach to sustainability: from the continuous improvement of production and company processes to raising the awareness of employees, who are called upon to make a personal contribution both in the workplace and in their private life.
